Did anyone else think their parents were crazy for having butter pecan-flavored anything when they were a child? We might have been too young and naive to know it then, but we’ve learned now: very few things beat butter pecan-flavored ice cream, desserts, or even coffee drinks!

When we say “butter pecan coffee drink,” we don’t mean a cup of drip brew with a drizzle of butter pecan syrup stirred in. Yes, flavored syrups can be delicious and satisfying, but they don’t provide the same rich depth as a creamer.

That’s why we’re sharing this butter pecan coffee creamer recipe — so you can spike your cup with a dose of butter pecan-flavored goodness and some much-appreciated creaminess!

Perks of Pecans

There are a few advantages to pouring butter pecan creamer into your coffee, besides your drink tasting great. For one, it puts pecans into your diet, and these tree nuts have a host of benefits, including:

  • Monosaturated fatty acids that lead to improved heart health
  • Soluble fiber content that stabilizes blood sugar
  • Nutrients associated with decreased mental decline

The best way to reap the benefits of pecans is to eat them by themselves. But we think it’s more fun to try them in other forms, such as a jar of nut butter or blended into a sweet maple pecan latte.

How to Make Butter Pecan Coffee Creamer at Home

You’ll Need

  • blender or food processor
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1-quart water
  • 1 can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • cheesecloth
  • saucepan

The Process

Step One

Kick things off by pouring the chopped pecans, butter, water, salt, and vanilla extract into a blender or food processor.

Then, blend the ingredients until the mixture is relatively smooth; this should take about 45 seconds to a minute.

Step Two

Next, use cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer to filter any leftover pecan pieces out of the liquid.

We strained the liquid twice so that the result turned out as smooth and creamy as possible. You can probably get away with only doing so once, but we thought it better to be safe than sorry (the idea of having to chew creamer didn’t sound very appealing).

Step Three

Once filtered, pour the blend of ingredients into a small- or medium-sized saucepan with a can of sweetened condensed milk. Let the two warm over low heat, stirring slowly until combined.

Step Four

Finally, we’ve reached the last step, the most fun part — the taste test!

Once you remove the sweet, nutty creamer from the heat, you’re free to brew a cup of coffee and sample your creation right away. Make sure to transfer it to an airtight container before storing it in your fridge.

As is the case with many other homemade creamers, this one will only stay fresh for about a week, so don’t let it go to waste!

An Alternative Route…

If sweetened condensed milk isn’t your cup of tea, don’t fret; there’s another way.

You can use milk of your choice and a sweetener like blue agave syrup or maple syrup instead of sweetened condensed milk.

This won’t be as rich and creamy as the sweetened condensed milk version, but at least you’ll have control over how sweet the contents of your cup are.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it cheaper to make your own creamer?

Opting to make coffee creamer at home rather than purchasing something from the store can save you money in the long run. Yes, all the creamer ingredients cost more than a bottle of Coffee Mate.

However, those ingredients will last a while and give you multiple batches of creamer — you get more bang for your buck.

How long will the butter pecan creamer last?

You can keep your homemade butter pecan coffee creamer for six to seven days, provided you keep it refrigerated and in an airtight container.

Is butter pecan the same as butterscotch?

Butter is a necessary player in the flavors of both butterscotch and butter pecan, but that’s about where their similarities end — besides the fact that they both taste great in cups of coffee!

Butterscotch, whose primary ingredients are butter and brown sugar, more closely resembles caramel than butter pecan. The result is simply sweet. On the other hand, butter pecan has sweet and nutty notes in its flavor profile.

Pe-Can You See Yourself Trying This Creamer?

We know, we know. That pun was corny, but we couldn’t pass it up! Bad joke aside, we enjoyed this homemade butter pecan coffee creamer and hope you will, too.
