These gluten-free corn dogs actually taste better than your local Fair. Why? As you can use quality ingredients of your choice without worrying about cross-contamination.
You can easily adjust the ingredients to your diet; however, I would not change the addition of the egg, as it is crucial in making the batter adhere to the hot dog. The batter is really the key to success in this recipe.

INGREDIENTS IN GLUTEN-FREE CORN DOGS
FOR GLUTEN-FREE CORN DOGS
Hot dogs - You will need 6 gluten-free hot dogs. Check labels to ensure the hot dogs are gluten-free.
Corn flour or Corn meal - You can use either ½ cup corn flour or ½ cup corn meal. I prefer corn flour as it makes a softer outer coating, whereas cornmeal yields a crunchier outer coating. I like to use Bob's Red Mill Gluten-Free Corn Flour and Bob's Red Mill Gluten-Free Medium Grind Cornmeal. Don't mistake this for corn starch.
Gluten-Free All-Purpose Flour Blend - You can use one of our gluten-free flour blendsor your favorite all-purpose 1:1 style gluten-free flour. Bob's has potato starch in it and not tapioca starch.
Baking powder - ½ tbsp baking powder to make the perfect batter.
Sugar - Regular granulated white sugar.
Egg - 1 large egg, beaten. I would not recommend using an egg replacer as the key to the batter adhering to the hot dog is egg in the batter.
Milk - I use whole milk, but you can use a dairy-free option of your choice.
Salt and oil - Salt for taste. Use an oil that can be used for deep frying.
FOR SERVING (OPTIONAL)
Condiments - I like to dip them in ketchup and mustard.
EQUIPMENT NEEDED FOR THIS GLUTEN-FREE CORN DOGS
Skewers, slide sticks or lollipop sticks - You can use these slide sticks Bamboo Candy Apple Sticks or 6" Bamboo Barbecue Skewers.
Frying pan or deep fryer - You can use a medium-sized heavy-bottom saucepan or deep fryer. Make sure the 6" can fit in comfortably.

HOW TO MAKE GLUTEN-FREE CORN DOGS
- Get your ingredients ready.
- Remove the hot dogs from the package and pat them dry. TIP: It's important to pat them dry so the coating adheres to the hot dog. Insert the skewer parallel to the hot dogs carefully to not pierce completely through them.
- Combine the corn flour, gluten-free flour, baking powder, sugar, egg, milk, and salt in a medium bowl.
- Store in the refrigerator until ready to use.
- Toss the hot dogs in the batter to create a coating all around. The mixture should stick to them; if not, add a little bit more flour to thicken the batter. Then dip your hands in a bowl with cold water and work the (thicker) batter all around the hot dog to create a nice even coating. Heat the frying oil in a large frying pan or a deep fryer if you have one, and line a large platter with kitchen paper to absorb any excess oil. Place the coated hot dogs in the frying oil slowly. Fry for about 2 minutes and then rotate them so they cook evenly on all sides. They are ready when they are golden brown. Remove them from the oil and place on the kitchen paper.
- Repeat with the remaining hot dogs. Serve immediately with ketchup and mustard.

Hot dogs - Make sure to dry the hot dogs off before coating them. This helps the batter to stick to the hot dog.
Apply flour - If you battling to get the batter stick to the hot dog. Dip the hot dog into your gluten-free flour.
Chill the batter and prepare the batter correctly - Don't skip this step. Chilled batter aids in the application process. For best success, ensure you follow the recipe to achieve a great batter.
Inserting the sticks - Make sure to place them horizontally; it helps to hold the hot dog horizontally too.

Let the corn dogs cool once cooked. Then transfer them into an airtight container. You can then store them in the fridge for up to 4 days or in the freezer for 6 months. If frozen, you can reheat them in your oven at 350°F for 12-15 minutes. When reheating the gluten-free hot dogs from the refrigerator, reduce the cooking time to 8-10 minutes.
