OUT JUST WHAT STARTED THE FIRE STORM SURGE, HEAVY RAINS AND POWERFUL WINDS HIT PARTS OF TEXAS. TODAY IS WHAT IS NOW TROPICAL STORM BERYL MOVES FURTHER INLAND AS WE SPEAK. BERYL MADE LANDFALL AS A CATEGORY ONE HURRICANE SOUTHWEST OF HOUSTON EARLY THIS MORNING. AT LEAST TWO PEOPLE DIED WHEN TREES FELL ON THEIR HOMES, AND RIGHT NOW, OUR LOCAL RED CROSS CHAPTER IS IN TEXAS TO HELP THOSE AFFECTED BY THE STORM. SOOJI NAM JOINS US LIVE OUTSIDE THE RED CROSS IN WEST PALM BEACH TO EXPLAIN MORE ABOUT THEIR STORM RESPONSE. SOOJI. STEPHANIE TODD IN THE SOUTH FLORIDA REGION, THERE ARE MORE THAN A DOZEN VOLUNTEERS THAT HAVE BEEN DEPLOYED TO TEXAS TO HELP DISPLACED FAMILIES FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS. JOE VIZZI FROM SEBASTIAN, IS NOW ON HIS 19TH DEPLOYMENT AS AN AMERICAN RED CROSS VOLUNTEER. DROVE IT, UH, TO SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, TOOK TWO DAYS TO GET HERE AND ALMOST 19 HOURS. AND RIGHT NOW I AM IN THE WAREHOUSE. JOE TOOK AN EMERGENCY RESPONSE VEHICLE, WHICH HELPS PROVIDE FAMILIES WITH WARM MEALS AND WATER. MY SAYING IS, I WILL NEVER GO TO HELL BECAUSE EVERYONE SAYS GOD BLESS YOU, JOE, AND OTHER VOLUNTEERS WILL THEN MOBILIZE TO THE HOUSTON AREA AND HELP WITH RECOVERY EFFORTS FOR THE NEXT 14 DAYS. AND WE’LL BRING LIKE WATER CLEANUP KITS. UM, TARPS. AS OF MONDAY MORNING, MORE THAN 2 MILLION PEOPLE IN TEXAS WERE WITHOUT POWER. OFFICIALS SAY THAT ON SUNDAY NIGHT, MORE THAN 120 PEOPLE WERE IN THE RED CROSS EVACUATION SHELTERS STATEWIDE, PROVIDING A SAFE SPACE FOR FAMILIES TO GO TO EITHER TO RIDE OUT THE STORM OR IF THEIR HOME IS FLOODED OR DAMAGED DURING THE STORM. THEY HAVE A PLACE TO GO TO IMMEDIATELY. SOUTH FLORIDA VOLUNTEERS WILL ALSO BE ASSESSING DAMAGES IN THE NEIGHBORHOODS TO HELP FAMILIES RECOVER FROM THE HURRICANE. WE CAN GO AHEAD AND MOVE INTO THE IMPACT ZONE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. AND WHILE FLORIDA WAS NOT IN THE WAY OF HURRICANE BERYL’S PATH, RED CROSS OFFICIALS HAVE A MESSAGE TO RESIDENTS IN THE SUNSHINE STATE. THINK ABOUT WHAT IS HAPPENING IN TEXAS. THE NEXT STORM VERY EASILY COULD BE HEADING TO SOUTH FLORIDA, AND IT’S BEEN A WHILE SINCE PALM BEACH AND THE TREASURE COAST HAVE HAD A DIRECT HIT BY A STRONG STORM, SO REVIEW THOSE PLANS, REVIEW THOSE EMERGENCY PLANS. "Any time we could get hit with a hurricane in Florida and I would like other people to come and help us if we needed it," Joe Vizzi, a volunteer with the American Red Cross in South Florida, told WPBF 25 News.

More than a dozen American Red Cross volunteers from South Florida have been deployed to Texas to help displaced families from Hurricane Beryl. "Drove it to San Antonio, Texas, took two days to get here and almost 19 hours. And right now, I’m in the warehouse in San Antonio," Joe Vizzi, a volunteer from Sebastian, told WPBF 25 News. This is Vizzi's 19th deployment as an American Red Cross volunteer. He had taken an emergency response vehicle across the country to help provide families with warm meals and water. Volunteers from South Florida will be assessing damages in the neighborhoods to help families recover from the hurricane. "Throughout their deployment, they could be moved around hundreds of miles. It just really depends on where the need is," he said. And while Florida was not in the way of Hurricane Beryl's path, Red Cross officials have a message to residents in the Sunshine State. "Think about what is happening in Texas. The next storm, very easily, could be heading to South Florida. And it’s been a while since Palm Beach and Treasure Coast had a direct hit by a strong storm, so review those plans, review those emergency plans, your hurricane plans. This is Vizzi's 19th deployment as an American Red Cross volunteer. He had taken an emergency response vehicle across the country to help provide families with warm meals and water.

"My saying is, I will never go to hell because everybody says God bless you," Vizzi said, laughing.

He and other volunteers will mobilize to the Houston area soon to help with recovery efforts for the next 14 days.

"We’ll bring like water, cleanup kits, tarps, rakes and shovels," he said.
