Attentive and Compassionate MCAT tutor

Abhinav was an extremely attentive and compassionate tutor. Before we began tutoring, we had a conversation about my first MCAT attempt, what would best be improved and how we can achieve my target overall score. Because looking for a tutor on Wyzant can be overwhelming, I especially appreciated his proactiveness and how he went out of his way to ask me what my tutoring needs were. For my lesson plans, we mainly focused on the science sections (B/B + C/P). Due to his experience taking the MCAT himself and tutoring other students, he was able to spot which of my approaches were error-prone. He is also honest and straightforward with you. Since I was a retaker, Abhinav also used my previous practice exams as a way to figure out what test-taking skills I needed to improve. I personally struggled with being able to simplify the science passages and understand the big picture well enough without getting distracted by the details; this is also what we focused on during lessons where we mainly did passages together. Besides the tutoring sessions, Abihav was also easy to communicate with if any questions came up while studying. Through his help, I was able to become more confident about the test and raised my score by 8 points. I would recommend tutoring with Abhinav if you are looking for someone who will help you build the test taking skills and strategy approaches needed for this difficult exam!

Patient + knowledgeable tutor who creates individualized study plans

Abhinav and I predominately focused on the CARS section of the MCAT during our tutoring sessions, however, his techniques and strategies carried over to the other sections as well. For the first few sessions, we went through CARS passages together and he showed me how he would approach the section. Then, I would talk him through a new passage and questions by explaining my thought process behind each answer choice. He would guide me through these questions and passages to help change my mindset into picking out the important main ideas and learning how to frame questions and answer choices to lead me to the correct answer. Each time, Abhinav individualized every session to my needs based on what I was struggling with that week--such as: going through new passages together, reviewing my past exam passages to see where I went wrong, deciphering the wording of specific questions, or working on timing. Additionally, we did a few sessions focused on other MCAT sessions where he taught me important generalized skills for each section and ideas for how to improve/study the different material. He has MANY resources at his disposal and is not shy to share any of them which was super helpful!! He was also very generous at taking extra time to look through my practice exams to see where I could improve and helping me set up a study plan for the coming weeks. Tutoring with Abhinav has been a valuable experience throughout this process. His knowledge and techniques for the MCAT have really helped me gain confidence and improve my reading skills. Lastly, Abhinav is a very personable and patient tutor which created a very positive environment. I really appreciated how he never rushed the tutoring sessions and he always ended after we finished the material he had planned (not when the hour was up). He kept in contact with me often to see how I was performing, where I needed help, and any suggestions he could give to always keep improving. I would highly recommend tutoring with Abhinav if you are struggling with a topic or need any advice related to the MCAT and applying to medical school.

Amazing MCAT tutor

Working with Abhinav changed my entire MCAT approach and I am so grateful for his help! The first thing he did was help me create a schedule and study plan for the 6 months we worked together, listing which chapters to cover. He adjusted this plan when things came up as well, so I could spend more time on difficult topics. He showed me third party study videos, questions, and practice exams, all for free or much cheaper than I would have originally paid. He helped me understand the subjects that gave me trouble, especially complicated pathways and physiology, and showed me strategies to improve my approach, especially for the Chemistry/Physics section. He was always very responsive to my questions and really helped me build my confidence, allowing me to improve my score by 6 points. I will be matriculating to medical school in a few months and I'm so grateful for his help.

Before meeting Abhinav, my biggest struggle was how to do well on the MCAT. I was not aware of all the nuances and the complexities of the exam. From day one, we formulated a comprehensive 6 month schedule. That was extremely helpful as it gave the me the appropriate structure and guidance throughout the 6 months. Abhinav and I met on a weekly basis discussing the previous chapters that I have studied. In regards to topics that I was not familiar with or flat out did not understand, he was able to distill these complex problems into smaller digestible pieces that I was able to understand. For example, I was struggling to understand a high yield topic of mitosis and meiosis. I was mixing up the steps and what occurs in each phase. Abhinav simplified it for me by thoroughly going through each step and he made sure that we did not move on to the next phase until I fully understood the previous one. He was able to condense a very intricate and convoluted process in a way that was easy to comprehend. In addition to helping me with complex MCAT topics, Abhinav helped me go through AAMC full lengths exams. He was very encouraging and went above and beyond by going through each question in full lengths. He really does go above and beyond to ensure that I did well. In addition to being knowledgeable about the MCAT topics, he showed me nifty tips and tricks to save time on the MCAT. He is also very resourceful and has great resources to reinforce what I had learned. All in all, I highly recommend anyone to work with Abhinav because he has instilled confidence in me and I saw my score go up significantly on the MCAT!
